As a proud owner of a Tesla Model Y, I have had the pleasure of experiencing the many incredible features and innovations that this electric vehicle has to offer. From its stunning design to its impressive performance, the Model Y has exceeded my expectations in numerous ways. I wanted to share all the things I love about this amazing vehicle and needed to give myself a limit because the list would really be too long. So I thought about the Top-10 things, but that’s too cliche and still not enough, so here it is… the top 11 things that I absolutely love about owning my Tesla Model Y. Let’s dive in!
Sleek and Stylish Design:
My Tesla Model Y is sexy! I know some people don’t like the design of it, but I am totally in love. I decided on the red paint and although it is a steep price for the option, I don’t regret the choice one bit. It really does have a sleek and modern design and even those who initially had reservations about the look, really appreciate it when seeing it up close. Its aerodynamic shape not only enhances its efficiency but also gives it a futuristic look. The panoramic glass roof not only adds to the overall aesthetic appeal but also allows an abundance of natural light into the car and it’s quite beautiful, giving it an open and spacious feel.
The Model Y’s design also incorporates subtle touches like hidden door handles that automatically extend when needed, adding to the vehicle’s sleek and streamlined appearance. I really do love it!
Spacious Interior:
Once you step inside the Model Y, you’ll be note a spacious and sleek interior. Its generous cabin space is one of the Model Y’s top features. It comfortably accommodates five adults and offers ample legroom and headroom in both the front and rear seats. The high seating position provides excellent visibility, giving both the driver and passengers a commanding view of the road. The second-row seats are designed to be versatile and can be folded flat to create a large cargo area. Whether it’s hauling luggage for a family trip or transporting bulky items, the Model Y’s flexible interior space provides the convenience and practicality I need.
Impressive Performance:
The Tesla Model Y delivers crazy performance that never fails to put a smile on my face. It provides instant torque, offering rapid acceleration from a standstill, but equally as thrilling when accelerating from any speed. I’ve got the dual-motor Long Range Model Y and having driven through difficult Canadian winter storms, I can tell you the traction and handling are impressive, to say the least. My Model Y can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds (Yes, I’ve tested it), making it a true sports SUV. There is an acceleration boost upgrade you can buy – which is delivered through an over-the-air update – that shaves approx 0.6 seconds off the 0-60. I might just treat myself to that upgrade one day!
Long Electric Range:
The Model Y Long Range has a high-capacity battery pack, with a stated range of 531km (331 mi), but I’ve never been able to get that far. With that said, I can still drive for extended distances without really worrying about running out of charge. For commuting in the city, it has more than enough range to get to work and back, and there really isn’t a need to worry about charging for several days. We love long road trips, and at first, I had some range anxiety for our longer drives and did take some getting used to, for example, the effect that cold temperatures have on the range, but in reality, it is not a big issue, especially since the vehicle navigation plans in charging stops if needed.
The car is equipped with regenerative braking, which helps maximize its range. When I lift my foot off the accelerator, the vehicle’s electric motors convert the kinetic energy into electricity, which is then fed back into the battery. This regenerative braking system not only helps extend the range but also contributes to a more efficient driving experience (and dramatically extends the life of the brakes). This feature was strange at first, but now I love it and miss it when driving my other gas-powered vehicle.
Supercharger Network:
Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network is a game-changer for electric vehicle owners. My Model Y, like all other Tesla models, can use Tesla’s Supercharger stations, which provide high-speed charging capabilities. These stations are strategically located along major highways, making long-distance travel convenient and greatly reducing range anxiety – knowing there is always a Tesla charger within driving distance. There’s little thinking when on a trip – the navigation system automatically locates Supercharger stations along your route and plans them into your drive. Plus, it automatically begins conditioning the battery pack before it arrives at the charging stop, helping to reduce the time required to top-up the batteries.
The Supercharger network is constantly evolving with new stations popping up and others being upgraded with faster charging speeds. In a matter of minutes, I can add significant range to my Model Y, allowing me to get back on the road with minimal downtime.
Autopilot and Full Self-Driving Capabilities:
Thinking back 10 years, it was hard to believe that cars would have the ability to drive themselves, but that reality is here! I purchased my Model Y with Enhanced Autopilot, which gives me the ability for the vehicle to essentially drive itself on main highways. At first, it was quite intimidating to hand over control to the vehicle, but soon after, it became a common way to take highway trips. Even though it requires the driver to keep their hands on the steering wheel and pay attention, it still greatly reduces driver fatigue and enhances safety on long highway journeys. The Autopilot feature is still officially in Beta, but is continually being improved through over-the-air software updates.
Enhanced Safety Features:
When driving around my loved ones, car safety is really all that’s important. The most significant of the Model Y’s top features that attracted me, was its vehicle safety. Safety is a top priority for Tesla, and the Model Y is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety features. The vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance systems work in harmony to provide peace of mind on the road. Features such as collision avoidance, emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring help prevent accidents and mitigate potential risks. The Model Y also has a strong and rigid structure, designed to absorb and distribute impact forces in the event of a collision. The vehicle has achieved impressive safety ratings from independent testing organizations, and that was one of the big factors for me when we decided to purchase it.
Cutting-Edge Technology:
I really love technology and cutting-edge advancements in so many fields. Owning a Tesla has fed that part of me in so many ways. The amount of tech found in my Model Y is astounding. The centerpiece of the vehicle’s interior is the touchscreen control center, which serves as the hub for controlling pretty much anything you need to. The display is responsive and user-friendly, making it effortless to navigate through menus and settings. Although at first, I must admit, I looked for buttons (and wished it had some) to control many of the features found in vehicles, like climate and audio controls, but now I love the button-less experience.
The interface is constantly evolving and new features and ways to control things keep evolving, making it better and better as it ages – something unheard of in legacy automobiles. Plus, the vehicle comes with entertainment options like Netflix, Youtube, and an ever-expanding application list that allows for the vehicle and its high-definition screen to become an impressive entertainment and cinematic experience.
Over-the-Air Updates:
One of the standout advantages of owning a Tesla is the ability to receive over-the-air software updates. These updates are like having a brand-new car delivered to you every few weeks, as they bring new features, performance improvements, and even enhancements to the vehicle’s Autopilot capabilities. My Model Y continually evolves and gets better over time, ensuring that I always have the latest advancements at my fingertips, and as previously mentioned, something that goes completely opposite to what legacy automobiles offered in the past.
Tesla notifies me when updates are available on the mobile app, and I can choose when to install them. These updates not only add new features but also enhance the overall performance and efficiency of the Model Y, providing a modern and satisfying ownership experience. I literally get so excited when the app tells me there’s a new upgrade because I know I get new toys to play with!
Environmental Impact:
Owning my Tesla, like all other electric vehicles allow me to contribute to a greener and more sustainable future. By driving an electric car, I reduce my carbon footprint and minimize emissions that contribute to climate change. My Model Y has no tailpipes, no oil, and produces no emissions and that is something I am proud to say.
Tesla Community and Owner Support:
A surprising benefit that I didn’t anticipate, was how great it has been, being part of the Tesla community – it truly is an incredible experience. The passion and enthusiasm shared among Tesla owners create a sense of camaraderie and support. When at Supercharger stations, we’ve met so many fun and friendly people. There are many Tesla groups on Facebook and online, and many are great to get tips, tricks or just chatting about the latest feature or fun things added to the cars. Also, from my experience, the service department has been very helpful and taken care of the things I needed.
As you can tell, I am really a Tesla fan, and owning our Model Y has been a joy. It really is more than just owning and driving a car.
